About Our Daily Bread

At Our Daily Bread, every loaf begins with a personal journey.

After years of being unable to tolerate commercial bread, our founder sought answers through a food sensitivity blood test, which confirmed a sensitivity to wheat. Her doctor explained that traditionally fermented wheat products might be a better option, as the natural fermentation process can help make wheat easier to digest.

While searching for a solution, she discovered that many store-bought sourdough breads contained commercial yeast, preservatives, additives, and dough conditioners—far from the simple, traditional bread she was looking for.

Determined to create bread she could enjoy again, she returned to the basics: flour, water, salt, and a wild sourdough starter. That first naturally leavened loaf was the first bread she had been able to eat comfortably in years.

From there, Our Daily Bread was born.

Rather than following the common 4–6 hour fermentation process used in many commercial sourdough bakeries, we developed a long-fermentation method that allows each loaf to ferment slowly over two days. This extended fermentation gives the wild yeast and naturally occurring lactic acid bacteria more time to break down gluten and other compounds in the dough while developing the rich flavor, texture, and traditional characteristics that make authentic sourdough unique.

Our breads are crafted for people looking for a more traditional loaf, including many who experience sensitive stomachs, IBS, or certain food sensitivities and are searching for a bread that may be easier to digest. Many of our customers tell us they are able to enjoy bread again after making the switch to our naturally long-fermented sourdough.

We believe in keeping bread the way it was meant to be made:

  • Flour
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Wild yeast

Nothing more.

While long-fermented sourdough may be easier for some individuals to digest, Our Daily Bread is not recommended for people with celiac disease, as our bread still contains wheat and gluten.

Our mission is simple: to honor the traditional art of sourdough baking and offer wholesome, naturally fermented bread that helps more people enjoy the simple pleasure of eating bread again.

The name "Our Daily Bread" comes from The Lord's Prayer:

The Lord’s Prayer

“Pray, then, in this way:

‘Our Father, who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil."

Matthew 6:9-13

Our daily bread in this household is the Bible, the Word of God
Because as Jesus answered “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alonebut on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4

Whoever eats this sourdough bread will be hungry again, but whoever feeds on the Bread of Life will never hunger.
